In March of this year, Dalton Schultz signed a 3 year $36 million dollar contract extension with the Texans. After hauling in 59 catches and five touchdowns last year, there’s certainly optimism that the 28 year old tight end is capable of building on those numbers.

Obviously, there is only one football and the Texans are loaded at most of the offensive skilled positions. However, both head coach DeMeco Ryans and quarterback C.J. Stroud like seeing how Dalton’s role continues to evolve.

Here’s what they said following the Texans win over the Giants.

On the reliability from TE Dalton Schultz

    C. J. : Dalton is a vet's vet. He's somebody that comes in and works hard every day. Not only just on the field is he a mismatch and somebody who can create separation and do a lot of great things, but also he's just a great leader. Leads a lot of those young guys, 'Brev' [Brevin Jordan], Cade [Cade Otton],'D.K.' [Dalton Keene], Troy [Troy Hairston], all them boys, along with backing stuff too. That room is just willing to do anything for the team. Dalton is at the forefront of that.

On the growing relationship between QB C.J. Stroud and TE Dalton Schultz

DeMeco: Dalton is a reliable, trustworthy player. He finds a way to get open, especially third down. He has really great hands. He's always like in between the hashes right there. He's able to make a play, and he's available for C.J. to get the ball to him. Dalton has done that his entire career. He's been a consistent player. He's done a good job for us since he's been here. I think C.J. sees that and he knows that he's a reliable target.
