Raheem Morris Shares Insights On The Scarcity Of Preseason Snaps For Quarterbacks

    By Cole Sullivan,

Atlanta Falcons first-time head coach Raheem Morris spoke about the lack of reps he has given his quarterbacks in preseason. Starting quarterback Kirk Cousins has not and will not play at all.

While first-round pick Michael Penix Jr. appeared in the first preseason game but was shut down by Morris after that. Morris went on the Up and Adams Show and gave some insight into his thought process.

"One thing I've learned about coaching is that you don't get mulligans if you do get a player hurt that you're counting on." Morris said.

Cousins is coming off a torn achilles, so it will be extremely interesting to see how he responds when he steps on the field for the first time with no prior in-game reps around his belt.

While Penix Jr. completed 9 of 16 passes for 104 yards in his minimal amount of series on the field during week one of the preseason.

"Mike showed us last week enough that we don't have to play him again in the preseason" Morris said last week.

Taylor Heinicke has taken the majority of the reps throughout preseason this far, and it's unclear who will start the final preseason game for the Falcons. It very well could be Heinicke again.

Nontheless, Morris made his stance clear, and sometimes it pays dividends. Other times they start the season slow and rusty. Only time will tell.
