The Miami Marlins returned home and played Game One of a three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night and lost 9-6.

It was a high-powered offensive day for both teams. Miami managed 12 hits and got a home run from Nick Fortes and RBIs by Xavier Edwards, Kyle Stowers, and Connor Norby who was just recalled from Triple-A Syracuse. They made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth inning, scoring two runs on a sacrifice fly and an RBI double. However, the Arizona bullpen retired Jake Burger and Jonah Bride to end the game. Overall, the Marlins got to the D-backs starter Brandon Pfaadt, who gave up four runs on nine hits and two walks, and he struck out four batters.

Miami starter Adam Oller, who made his first start of the season, didn't fare well either. He allowed a third-inning grand slam to Arizona catcher Adrian Del Castillo, followed by a solo shot by designated hitter Joc Pederson. He only went four and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on three hits and four walks, and he struck out two batters.

Arizona wins for the 70th time this season. They are now sitting in the second National League wild-card spot by three games. The San Diego Padres are in front of them and the Atlanta Braves are not far behind.

Miami, meanwhile, is now 46-79. They will try to rebound in Game Two of the series on Tuesday night with Edward Cabrera on the mound against Arizona southpaw starter Eduardo Rodriguez.
