NFL Legend Goes to Bat for Noah Lyles After Latest Tyreek Hill Challenge

The Noah Lyles-Tyreek Hill standoff just got a bit more interesting.

The Olympic gold medalist and Miami Dolphins star receiver have been taking shots at one another via social media and podcast appearances, but after Hill challenged Lyles to “sign the contract” to compete head-to-head in a 50-yard race, Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe sided with Lyles about Hill trying to tip the scales in his favor.

“You can’t challenge me in something and then try to set the terms in which you challenging me,” Sharpe said on his “Nightcap” podcast. “If I challenge Steph Curry to a three-point competition, I can’t say okay, we going to shoot from 12 feet.

“…You can’t say I can bench press more than Aaron Donald then say, ‘OK, we’re only going to do 135 (pounds).’ If you’re going to challenge the man, you’ve got to challenge him at what he does.”

    Sharpe’s co-host Chad Johnson disagreed.

The six-time Pro Bowler argued that any race between the two would have to be handicapped to give Hill a chance, stating “once Noah get past 50 60 yards, ain’t nobody keeping up, I don’t give a f--k how fast you are, because he’s built and his trained for that as a track athlete.”

Hill, who's adamant that he's faster than Lyles, ran the 100m in 10.19 seconds during his days as a track and field star in high school. For comparison, Lyles won gold in the 100m with a time of 9.79 seconds.

Lyles, who also won bronze in the 200 meters, seems on-board with racing Hill, who he claims is just chasing clout.

"Any time somebody fast comes up, he says he wants to race him," Lyles said. "If he really wanted to race people, he would’ve showed up like D.K. Metcalf."
