Buccaneers' Offense 'In A Good Spot' Says Chris Godwin

It has been an offseason of intense learning for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense. Liam Coen stepped into the offensive coordinator role vacated by Dave Canales, who is now the head coach in Carolina.
During OTAs and training camp, several offensive players called Coen's system complex and hard to learn due to all the pre-snap information being thrown at them and with Baker Mayfield having the ability to check in and out of plays, every player needs to be on their game.
But after two preseason games, things are slowly coming along for the offense, and Chris Godwin likes where the offense is right now but stated that they aren't the finished product yet.
“I think we're in a good spot,” Godwin said . “Not perfect, but it's like there's still a lot of nuances to learn, but just in terms of like our general like understanding of the scheme itself and what we're trying to do as an offense, I think a lot of guys have a really good like feel. I guess like that's a testament to the coaching staff and the way that they've installed it, we working really hard and since OTAs just installing everything and trying to figure out the best way to go about it so that everyone really understands it. So I think I think we're in a good spot now, but I would say there's room to grow.”
With more on Mayfield's plate pre-snap, the Buccaneers' offense will look vastly different from last year's, and it appears that players are now getting into a groove and understanding what's being asked of them.
Mayfield has some good weapons in Godwin, Mike Evans, Cade Otten, and a decent running back room led by Rachaad White , so the Buccaneers, who haven't gotten much love this offseason, could again surprise in 2024.
With another preseason game to go and with the regular season just around the corner, it certainly feels like the Buccaneers are dotting their I's and crossing their T's in Coen's scheme.
After a 2023 season that saw Tampa Bay clinch the division and win a playoff game, expectations are a little higher in 2024, with the offense set to be the driving force for the Buccaneers.
This is why it is good to hear that they are in a "good spot" so close to Week 1.
