The Miami Hurricanes continue to do well on the recruiting trail as witnessed by two more recent commitments – safety Bryce Fitzgerald and defensive lineman Mykah Newton – that bring the total to 22 pledges for the 2025 class.

To provide more details about the recruits pledging to Mario Cristobal's football program, today’s objective will be to show Miami’s recruiting rankings and statistics for the quarterback, running back, and wide receiver positions, discuss their playing strengths, and define overall position needs. Tomorrow, the tight ends and offensive linemen will be evaluated, then move into the defensive recruits afterward.

    Quarterback

Luke Nickel, 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, Milton (Ga.) High School

    Committed Aug. 12, 2023

    Highest Ranking : 4-star by On3, 102nd overall.

    Nickel’s 2023 statistics from MaxPreps : 277 of 419, 66.1%, 39 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions.

Position Overview : Miami finds its signal-caller during the early portion of the process. Nickel plays his best football during big moments, including leading Milton to the Georgia 2023 state championship. Primarily a pocket passer, Nickel showcases the mobility to make throws when outside the pocket; Nickel will also be a threat to gain yards within a run-pass option attack.

    Running Back

Girard Pringle, 5-foot-10, 185 pounds, Tampa (Fla.) Armwood

    Committed March 23, 2024

    Highest Ranking : 4-star by On3, 105th overall.

    Pringle’s 2023 statistics from MaxPreps : 219 carries for 1,683 yards, a 7.7 average, and 24 touchdowns.

Position Overview : Miami has an all-around running back with Pringle. Tremendous vision allows him to excel with inside runs and knowing when to break for the perimeter when the defense loses containment. If an outside zone, sweep, or similar play call comes into the huddle, Pringle will also be a threat to score with his speed.

This past Friday, he went 80 yards for a touchdown versus Miami (Fla.) Norland by running down the right sideline. He rarely goes down when meeting the first tackler either; Pringle’s stop-and-start ability should be considered tremendous.

Miami could take another running back in this class. It’s still in question with a recent scholarship offer to Lekedrin Harvey from Geismar (La.) Dutchtown. There’s also a recruit UM recruiting fans likely know well with Byron Louis from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage. Time will tell if the Canes sign an additional running back to pair with Pringle.

    Wide Receiver

Daylyn Upshaw, 6-foot, 180 pounds, Phenix City (Ala.) Central

    Committed July 13, 2024

Highest Ranking : Consensus 3-star recruit, with 247 placing him as the 55th wide receiver.

Position Overview : Upshaw becomes the first 2025 receiver and he will be a deep threat for the Hurricanes. From 2023, evidence of his speed and playmaking include seven games of at least 101 receiving yards. Playing for the Alabama defending 7A champions, Upshaw also goes against top competition.

Miami needs at least one more receiver in the 2025 class, preferably two. For starters, names to know would be Jaime Ffrench from Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin and Dallas Wilson from Tampa (Fla.) Tech. Ffrench will announce his college choice on Aug. 30 with Miami, Texas, LSU, and Tennessee as the finalists.

Wilson continues to be an Oregon commitment but Miami and Florida State should not be discounted from changing his mind. Georgia commitment Tyler Williams comes from the same high school as Pringle and could be another prospect to watch.
