Cowboys' Brandon Aubrey On 'Different Level!'

The Dallas Cowboys' 27-12 win over the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium was good for a host of reasons - one being Brandon Aubrey's 66-yard thunderbolt to end the first half.

After a rookie season in which Aubrey went a perfect 10/10 on 50+ yard field goals, he found himself on Dallas' own 48-yard line with the first half nearing its end. Head coach Mike McCarthy called out the kicking unit so Aubrey could have a shot at tying the NFL record (not officially due to it being a preseason game).

And he did it with room to spare as the Cowboys' most potent weapon did it again from long range.

Having such a reliable kicker from distance is a nice arrow to have in your quiver, and McCarthy had special praise for his kicker after his exploits in Vegas.

“[I] Had a similar level of confidence with Mason Crosby,” McCarthy said. “But Brandon, he's a different level. Just with his distance, I just go back to his first day here at camp, just having a chance to stand behind him and see the ball come off his foot so it's just like anything in our game, we work together every day so I get to see the consistency he kicks with. His ball placement and his length is outstanding.”

The Cowboys kicker position has come a long way in just 12 months. At the beginning of training camp last offseason, with Tristan Vizcaino and Aubrey in a battle for the role, the Cowboys decided to release Vizcaino to allow Brandon an uninterrupted camp, a move that at the time was seen as odd.

But with every kick, you can feel the vindication from Dallas' coaching staff.

Knowing that Aubrey can easily dial up the launch codes from 66 yards in a dome, the Cowboys now have a weapon that perhaps only the Baltimore Ravens possess with Justin Tucker - a kicker who is nearly automatic from anywhere on the field.

Every NFL team hopes to have a reliable kicker on their roster, but none are like Aubrey.

Why? Because he's simply on a different level.
