The NIL (name, image, and likeness) landscape has drastically changed the world of college sports. Players are signing endorsement deals left and right and are able to gain the benefits of their name and image.

However, the Oklahoma State Cowboys football program announced a first-of-its-kind NIL wrinkle that will be featured on their uniforms beginning in the 2024 season. The Cowboys will have scannable QR codes on the back of their helmets, per the official release from the program.

"Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy announced that the Cowboys will wear QR codes on their helmets this season that link to the general team fund for every student-athlete on the roster," the release stated. "It is believed to mark the first time that a college football team will wear QR codes in regular season games to promote players' earning potential."

This is certainly a new feature that is one-of-a-kind and an outside-the-box attempt to earn more NIL funds.

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy released a statement on the decision, as well.

"This is a revolutionary step forward to help keep Oklahoma State football ahead of the game," Gundy said. "It gives a chance for everyday fans across the world to have a real impact when it comes to supporting the NIL efforts for Cowboy football. I'm thrilled about this opportunity for our players."

The QR codes aren't going to just be on the helmets, either. Per the release, the codes will be on each payer's bag tag on game days and during travel. A code will also be on casters in premium areas of Boone Pickens Stadium, on signs throughout the stadium and even on the team's equipment truck.

Here's a photo of what the helmet's QR code will look like.

So, it is clear Oklahoma State is trying something new to attempt to earn more donors and NIL funds to build the program.

Oklahoma State begins the season against South Dakota State on August 31.
