Curtis Jacobs is proving that he belongs in the NFL.

The undrafted Penn State linebacker took advantage of his opportunities in his second appearance with the Kansas City Chiefs. Jacobs recorded four total tackles — two solo and two assisted — in the Chiefs' Week 2 preseason loss to the Detroit Lions on Saturday.

His impressive performance earned him the highest grade (91.0) of any rookie LB last week, per Pro Football Focus .

Jacobs has been present at the Chiefs facility all offseason, and he's determined to carve out a role on the final 53-man roster by the August 27 deadline.

Alternatively, Jacobs will be playing football. That much you can count on. The D.C. Defenders selected Jacobs with their eighth-round pick in July's UFL Draft. While it's nice to have a backup plan, Jacobs likely prefers his current opportunity with the reigning Super Bowl champions. He reportedly doesn't need to play for the Defenders if he joins the Chiefs this NFL season.

If all goes as planned for Jacobs, he will sign a contract for the season in Kansas City. That said, he's competing for a spot next to Nick Bolton, Drue Tranquill, Leo Chenal, Jack Cochrane and Cam Jones.

Jacobs will have another opportunity to distinguish himself in the Chiefs' final preseason matchup against the Chicago Bears on Thursday.
