Yesterday, two of the three teams in front of the Mets lost a key player to injury. MVP candidate and leader of the Diamondbacks, Ketel Marte, was put on the injured list. The injury means Marte will most likely miss the Mets series next week.

Austin Riley is also most likely done for the season after suffering a fracture in his right hand. Riley joins a star studded list of Braves on the injured list. If there is a year for the Mets to finish ahead of the Braves, this is the one.

While their foes got bad news, New York caught a break.

Brandon Nimmo hurt his right shoulder making a great diving catch. The right shoulder kept him out of games in previous years. Nimmo took a swing in his at bat after the catch. He instantly winced and did not look right. Nimmo finished the at bat but, clearly, he was not right. Nimmo was removed from the game after the at bat.

Fans expected the worst when Nimmo went for an MRI. However, the MRI came back clean and Nimmo is day to day. This is the best case scenario for the Mets and Nimmo. Not only did Nimmo dodge a serious injury, but manager Carlos Mendoza has a chance to sit Nimmo for a couple of days.

The longest tenured Met has really struggled recently. He has been forced to attempt to make adjustments on the fly while basically playing every day. Now, Nimmo has a couple of days to reset and refocus. He can tweak whatever he needs to but he can also just take a couple days to relax and get ready for his key role in the stretch run.
