Ex-Dolphins Coach Brian Flores Responds to Tua Tagovailoa's Spicy Comments

Tua Tagovailoa recently revealed what life was like when Brian Flores was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Tagovailoa shared an eye-opening comparison between the coaching tactics of Flores and new Dolphins coach, Mike McDaniel.

On Tuesday, Flores was able to respond to Tagovailoa's comments during a presser with the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings' defensive coordinator claims that he's "genuinely happy" for Tagovailoa, according to Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports. Flores seemingly has no ill will toward the Dolphins quarterback.

"I just want to say, look, I'm happy. Genuinely happy. Genuinely happy for the success that Tua's had. And I really wish him nothing but the best."

That might be a tad different of a response many were expecting based on how things played out in Miami. Especially considering Tagovailoa reveals that the difference between Flores and McDaniel, to him, are night and day.

While having a sit-down discussion with The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz , Tagovailoa hints that Flores would tell him that he "sucked" every day. While McDaniel has done the complete opposite.

"If you woke up every morning and I told you that you suck at what you did, that you don't belong, that you shouldn't be here, that you haven't earned this… and then someone come(s) and tells you, 'You are the best fit for this'…How [would] that make you feel?"

Flores took the high-road, which is smart considering his current situation in the league. After being let go by the Dolphins in 2022, Flores filed a lawsuit against the Dolphins franchise and the NFL.

The former head coach claims Miami fired him over racially charged reasons. Flores also claimed the the New York Giants and Denver Broncos did not hire him for similar reasons. Since being let go by the Dolphins, Flores worked for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2023 as a defensive assistant and linebackers coach. He now holds the defensive coordinator role in Minnesota.

As for Tagovailoa, he remains the starting quarterback of the Dolphins. Tagovailoa was brilliant for Miami last season as his accuracy proved to be the difference-maker for the offense. The star quarterback finished with 4,624 passing yards, 29 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, and a 69.3 completion percentage.

This offseason, the Dolphins rewarded Tagovailoa for his efforts by giving him a massive four-year $212.4 million contract extension with $167.1 million guaranteed. It's safe to say Tagovailoa will be the starting quarterback in Miami for quite some time.
