On Sunday, August 18, the Cincinnati Reds won Amed Rosario off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Now, he's the latest Red to join the squad. In a corresponding move, the Reds announced that they were placing Jeimer Candelario on the 10-day IL with a "left great toe fracture."

When he appears in a game for the Reds, it'll be his fifth team in his eight-year career. He started off with the New York Mets but was traded in the offseason leading up to the 2021 season to the Cleveland Guardians. Rosario was later traded at the 2023 trade deadline to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

After the 2023 season, he became a free agent and signed with the Tampa Bay Rays. This year, at the trade deadline, Rosario was traded back to the Dodgers as a short-term Mookie Betts replacement. Now that Betts is back, he was DFA'd by the Dodgers, and the Reds won him off waivers.

He only appeared in five games for the Dodgers. However, for 2024 as a whole, Rosario has not been too bad. He's slashing .305/.331/.415 with a career-best 113 OPS+.

He has 10.8 bWAR to this point in his career.

Candelario, meanwhile, was hot earlier in the season but has been hampered by what seemed to be a few lower-body injuries. In June, he was battling tendinitis. Now, it seems he suffered an injury to his left great toe.

In May and June, Candelario played in 47 games and hit .269/.306/.522 with 11 home runs and 30 RBIs. Since then, he's hit .194/.246/.348 in 40 games with six home runs and 17 RBIs.

It was known that a roster move was to be made with Rosario coming. Time will tell if this is a short-term IL stint.
