Detroit Lions Coach Dan Campbell spoke to the media about an injury to his top running back Jahmyr Gibbs on Tuesday, including an update about Gibbs' status for the final preseason game and Week One of the NFL season.

"He's trending the right way," Campbell said about Gibbs according to Detroit reporter Brad Galli. "Wish we had more practice with him, but as far as the health of it, he's healing and he's on schedule to be back and get his legs back."

Gibbs has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury earlier this month.

Gibbs, a 2023 first rounder out of Alabama, rushed for 945 yards on 182 carries for Campbell's team last season along with 10 touchdowns and a 5.2 yards per carry average.

He caught 52 passes for 316 yards and a touchdown with Jared Goff at the helm of coordinator Aaron Glenn's offense.

Campbell added that the Lions are expected to receive numerous players back in time for Week One vs the Rams on September 8 at Ford Field, including tight end Sam LaPorta and defensive lineman DJ Reader.

He added that he hoped for more practice time with Gibbs.

"Wish we had more practice with him, but as far as the health of it, he's healing and he's on schedule to be back, and get his legs back under him. And we'll see where he's at."
