Kansas City Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub has unveiled a surprising role for superstar tight end Travis Kelce for the upcoming 2024 NFL season.

Known for his exceptional pass-catching skills, Kelce is set to take on an unexpected position as the team’s emergency backup long snapper.

Toub mentioned that Kelce “would’ve been dynamite” in the long-snapper role, showcasing his versatility beyond his usual tight-end duties.

With starting long snapper James Winchester suffering a shoulder injury during the team’s preseason game against the Detroit Lions last Saturday, Kelce’s backup role has come into sharper focus.

In that game, tight end Noah Gray stepped in as a long snapper, filling in while Kelce didn’t play.

Throughout his career, Kelce has proven his versatility.

Although he’s renowned for his receiving skills—averaging 1,132 yards per season over the past decade—he’s also displayed strong blocking skills, agility after the catch, and now apparently, impressive long snapping abilities.

Kelce’s readiness to step into whatever role is needed highlights his winning mindset and team-first attitude.
