August means preseason camp for college football programs across America, which unfortunately tends to also lead to a rash of injuries just before the season's kickoff.

In 2024, the injury bug has struck again. Most notably, College Football Playoff contender Texas has had two of their top running backs go down. But in Big Ten country, there was injury news on Tuesday which changes the landscape of the league.

Pat Lanni of NJ.com reported to Twitter Tuesday afternoon that Rutgers linebacker and veteran leader Mohamed Toure will miss the entire 2024 season due to a torn ACL.

"Greg Schiano just announced that LB and senior captain Mo Toure will be out for the season with a torn ACL," wrote Lanni . "It's a significant blow for a defense that was counting on his dynamic ability."

Welp, that's a brutal beat for a middle-of-the-pack Big Ten squad that could be considered a dark horse contender to jump into the top five or six of the standings this coming season. Now, Schiano's terrific defense from 2023 will have to find answers without one of its cornerstones in Toure.

Toure was heading into his sixth year of college football but now will hope to see a seventh. In 2023, he produced 93 total tackles, good for second on the team, while adding a team-high 4.5 sacks and one interception.
