College football kicks off on Saturday with a very abbreviated “Week Zero” lineup. While Florida State’s ACC duel with Georgia Tech in Dublin headlines the day, late night fans will have a Hawai’i game to follow. That is, if the Rainbow Warriors’ opponent, FCS squad Delaware State, can make it all the way out to Honolulu.

The Hornets, members of the MEAC, were set to fly out ahead of the game on Tuesday. However, due to an issue with the team’s bus trip to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City, the team missed the 10.5-hour flight and is currently working on a solution to reach the game.

Gary Terp of ESPN 1420 in Honolulu was the first to report the news, which was later confirmed by Delaware State to Stephen Tsai of the Star-Advertiser .

Luckily Delaware State gave itself plenty of time to make its way to the islands, as the game doesn’t kick off until midnight on Saturday night. Brandon Marcello of CBS Sports reports that the program has successfully rebooked travel and will arrive on time.

Delaware State anticipated travel challenges. Head coach Lee Hull discussed the lengthy trip on Monday’s MEAC coaches call, per HBCU Gameday .

“Still, today people coming in, ‘Oh we got an issue here, we got an issue there. What are we doing here?” Hull said. “You know, so that last minute stuff that that comes up because of the the long flight. You know we got to drive to JFK which is three hours away. And then we got a direct flight, which is another 10.5 hours. So yeah, but we’re looking forward to it.”

With the rebooked travel, Delaware State will hopefully be able to focus on football, which presents its own issues. While Hawai’i, which finished 5-8 a year ago, is no world-beater, DSU has struggled for years. The program’s last winning season came in 2012, when the program went 6-5. The program is 1-13 all-time against FBS opponents, with the sole win coming in 1987 against Akron.

    Hawai’i is a 38.5-point favorite in Saturday’s game.
