On Tuesday's episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd , the longtime sports talk show host made five bold predictions for the 2024 NFL season, sparking debate among fans.

For his fourth prediction, Cowherd claimed that Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love would win the NFL's MVP award this upcoming season.

In a league featuring Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Aaron Rodgers—who have won the last six MVP awards—alongside other top contenders like Josh Allen and Joe Burrow, Cowherd’s pick is undeniably surprising. Then again, that’s what makes it a bold take.

“The last 10 starts last year, he [Love] was the best quarterback in football,” Cowherd said. “Also, I think there’s voter fatigue with Lamar [Jackson], Josh Allen, Aaron Rodgers... you know, Mahomes winning MVP. We want a new story, and the media likes stories. He’s fresh, he’s fun.”

In the 10 starts Cowherd referenced, Love completed 237 of 345 passes (68.7%) for 2,667 yards, 21 touchdowns, and three interceptions, with a passer rating of 108.2. In the seven starts before that, he was 135-for-234 (57.69%), with 1,492 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, with a passer rating of 78.2.

Cowherd also noted that the Packers' offense is “stacked” with talents like running back Josh Jacobs, wide receivers Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, and Jayden Reed, and tight end Luke Musgrave, not to mention offensive-minded head coach Matt LaFleur.

“Last year, the offense at the end of the year was like, ‘Whoa, what’ve we got here?’” Cowherd said. “A young quarterback generationally aligned with all his young receivers, tight ends, and O-linemen—I think this offense is magic this year.”

In late July, Love signed a new four-year deal with the Packers worth $220 million, including a record-setting $75 million signing bonus.

With Aaron Rodgers now with the New York Jets, last year was Love's first official season as the Packers' starting quarterback, during which he went 9-8, starting all 17 games. In the two years prior, he had appeared in just two games, with one start under his belt.
