It's not a secret to anyone that the New England Patriots are simply not a destination that perspective free agents are flocking to, even while the team has as much money to spend as anyone else in the league.

Following failed pursuits over the last couple of years of DeAndre Hopkins , Calvin Ridley , and now Brandon Aiyuk when the team by all accounts put extremely competitive offers forward to each has highlighted a bigger problem within the organization right now.

Big time free agents simply do not want to come to New England right now with how uncompetitive the team has been over the last two years. Which is a difficult reality to face considering the fact that new players will have to be brought in for the team to turn things around. It's a vicious cycle that can sometimes make rebuilds take way longer than they have to. Despite this, head coach Jerod Mayo is confident that the trend will turn if the team does what he believes it is capable of. He expressed optimism for the future during an appearance with The Greg Hill Show when he was asked what the team needs to reverse their luck with free agents.

"Once this thing starts coming together and we start winning games, I think more players would wanna come," Mayo said . "It’s a great place out here in New England. If you love football, this is the place you wanna be."

If the team can show a proof of concept this season that things are in fact trending up with flashes from a talented rookie quarterback , things could start to turn around quickly next offseason.
