Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell provided some injury updates on players, including for running back Jahmyr Gibbs, on Tuesday.

Gibbs has been dealing with a hamstring injury he suffered in early in training camp.

The injury has shut him down since but it's been speculated that Gibbs should be ready by the season opener for Sunday Night Football at home against the Los Angeles Rams.

Campbell provided an update Tuesday, saying the plan is "to get him going next week."

"He's trending the right way... we're hoping the day after the Pittsburgh [preseason] game, I think we're going to get a lot of guys back," Campbell said.

The Lions' head coach went on to say several others are expected to return as well, including offensive tackle Dan Skipper, offensive guard Kevin Zeitler, tight end Sam LaPorta, and linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez. Campbell said they "may" get defensive tackle D.J. Reader back soon as well.

"We're about to get a whole group of guys back hopefully Sunday. And then [they will join] next week's practice before we get ready for the Rams," Campbell said.

While he reiterated that Gibbs "is trending the right way," Campbell says he wishes he had "more practice with him."

"As far as the health of it, he is healing and he's on schedule to be back, get his legs back under him and we'll see where he's at," Campbell stated.

It's a relieving update not only for Gibbs but for other Lions players Campbell mentioned, as the team draws closer to the regular season.

Cornerbacks Ennis Rakestraw Jr. was back at practice on Tuesday while Amik Robertson and Carlton Davis III were limited but also practiced. As for rookie cornerback Terrion Arnold, the first-rounder isn't expected to return until next week.

"I think there's a chance we could get him [back] in the middle of the week next week," Campbell said. "He'll get a practice [in] before the guys are on their break."

Arnold suffered a pectoral injury in practice last week.

The Lions also moved edge rusher Malik Jefferson and receiver Tre'Quan Smith to injured reserve on Tuesday and signed linebacker Joel Iyiegbuniwe in a corresponding move.
