Quincy Wilson became one of the biggest stars of the Paris Olympics, winning a gold medal at age 16 and earning viral attention when he returned home.

Now, the teenager is looking back at the "crazy" experience that began when he earned a spot in the 4x400 meter talent pool at the U.S. Olympic Team Track and Field Trials. Wilson won a gold medal at the Paris Olympics as part of the U.S. men's 4x400 meter relay.

The rising high school junior discussed the experience in an interview with News4 Washington , saying it was surreal to represent his country on the biggest stage.

    "It was crazy," Wilson said.

Wilson became the youngest American male to win gold in a track and field event at the Olympics. He thanked his coaches and support system for helping him prepare for the experience.

Wilson said he received good advice from fellow Olympians who implored him to treat the Olympics like any other race, even if it was a much bigger stage.

Wilson said he embraced the approach.

"Once I got that call and I was able to go I was like, 'OK, we're going to have to run now,' " Wilson said.
