The Chicago Cubs are coming off a series victory against the Toronto Blue Jays. They enter the week 5.5 games outside the final spot in the National League Wildcard race. They will look to continue to make up ground with another series against a team from the American League. They will host the Detroit Tigers for three games beginning Tuesday.

Tuesday, August 20th: Javier Assad vs. Alex Faedo

The Cubs will go with Javier Assad (5-3, 3.19 ERA) for the series opener against the Tigers. The 27 year old is coming off three straight no decisions including his last start against the Cleveland Guardians. He allowed one run on five hits across 4.2 innings of work. He picked up two walks in the outing, putting him at seven allowed across his last three starts.

The Tigers will start Alex Faedo (5-3, 3.72 ERA) to act as an 'opener' in what appears to be a bullpen game on Tuesday. He will make his sixth start of the season. In his last appearance against the Seattle Mariners Faedo pitched the first inning and allowed one run and four walks. It took him 33 pitches to get out of the inning.
