Saleh Says Daboll Building 'World-Class Organization'

The New York Jets will “host” the New York Giants on Saturday, Aug. 24 in their preseason finale.

Last year, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers had some words for Giants lineman Jihad Ward in his short exhibition stint. This year, his status for the shared-stadium clash is up in the air . New York must be safe with how it handles the quarterback capable of ending the league’s longest playoff drought, and if that means waiting for Week 1 to see the field, so be it.

But Rodgers will likely hit the practice field when the Jets and Giants participate in a joint practice later this week.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh spoke on Tuesday about setting up the joint practice, taking the opportunity to praise Giants head coach Brian Daboll.

“Yeah, he loves FaceTime, doesn’t like talking, he likes FaceTime,” Saleh said with a laugh . “But yeah we’ve been in constant communication about getting this thing set up. I like working with Dabes. He speaks the right language, he preaches the right messaging. They’re building a world-class organization when it comes to character and all that. So, (I'm) looking forward to working with him.”

Daboll played an integral role in kick-starting his tenure in New York with a playoff victory to cap off a season that exceeded everyone’s expectations. In Year 2 of the administration, things came back to Earth – injuries, regression, bad luck – and reset the consensus on the Giants.

However, lost in the records and statistics is the culture that New York has fostered, taking steps forward as Daboll and Giants general manager Joe Schoen shape the roster in their vision. Saleh commended his coaching counterpart and shared several of the same values – which should be evident at practice.

However, after a series of fights broke out in the Giants’ initial joint venture with the Detroit Lions, skirmishes will be something fans watch for – if not encourage – during the practice.

As entertaining as spectators may find them, though, they ultimately waste valuable practice time and take away from the reps fans have been waiting to see – Olu Fashanu against star edge rushers, Malik Nabers against elite cornerbacks, etc.

Expect any skirmishes to be dealt with swiftly as both teams prepare for Saturday’s dress rehearsal.
