Joel Klatt Names Big Ten Program ‘Knocking On The Door’ Of The College Football Playoff

The Big Ten Conference looks much different for the upcoming 2024 college football season. All of USC, UCLA, Washington and Oregon have joined the now-18-team conference.
Early projections have Ohio State and Oregon as the favorites for the Big Ten, and rightfully so. However, there are plenty of other teams that could make a run for the title.
College football analyst Joel Klatt gave a bold prediction regarding one team, the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Klatt said they could be "knocking on the door" of the College Football Playoff.
"Nine wins: knocking on the door, knocking on the door of a College Football," Klatt said. "Depending on who they beat and when, they are right there in terms of the College Football Playoff discussion."
It's a strong take from Klatt, especially after Matt Rhule went 5-7 in his first season in Lincoln.
On the other hand, Nebraska brought in former five-star Georgia recruit Dylan Raiola in a massive upgrade at the quarterback position.
Klatt examined the 2023 season and then discussed how things should improve in 2024.
"They should've won eight games last year...I think their quarterback plays going to get much better with Dylan Raiola," Klatt said. "I believe he's going to be the starter."
The schedule might be difficult for Nebraska...
"I believe that in November, Nebraska is playing rally consequential games for a college football playoff berth," Klatt stated. "I believe they're that good this year. They could be 7-0 heading into Columbus, pending that game against the Buffs."
Nebraska begins the season at home for four straight games against UTEP, Colorado, Northern Iowa and Illinois. They then face Purdue, Rutgers, and Indiana before a tough stretch against Ohio State, UCLA, USC, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
As Klatt mentions, they could be a sneaky team in the Big Ten Conference, and if things go their way, the Cornhuskers could be right on the cusp of a College Football Playoff spot.
