'Learning Curve' Awaits Chiefs Rookie Xavier Worthy

Kansas City Chiefs speed merchant Xavier Worthy is fresh off a superb display against the Detroit Lions, catching three passes for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid stated prior to the game that the need to get Worthy involved in the offense was high. The rookie connected with Mahomes for a big 39-yard gain on the first drive of the game.

Worthy then linked up with Carson Wentz on a 22-yard touchdown pass after burning past his defender.

But while Worthy has been doing all the right things in the preseason, veteran receiver Mecole Hardman says tougher tests await the rookie.

"Xavier, he’s coming in, doing real well, bringing that speed,” Hardman said . “Definitely going to be a learning curve for sure when the regular season gets here, every rookie goes through it. But he’s doing real well, he’s going to be good.”

With Worthy getting his feet wet against the Lions and showcasing just how easily he can blow past defenders with his 4.21 speed, the Chiefs have a decision to make ahead of their third preseason game.

Give him more reps, or wrap him in cotton wool and get ready for the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1. Either way, the Chiefs must be happy with what they've seen from their first-round pick, and he has been advertised so far.

Pairing him with Marquise Brown, Mahomes has been dialing up the launch codes in training camp and the preseason games as he has his deep threat back.

Worthy is off to a great start in his NFL career, but as we know, preseason stats mean little when the regular season rolls around.

That's when the "real" stuff begins, and we'll get a better gauge of Worthy in the offense if he continues his form against a stout Ravens defense in Week 1.
