Trey Lance's trade value since being traded to the Dallas Cowboys in August 2023 has never been higher. But team owner Jerry Jones' recent comments have put any growing trade hype to rest for the time being.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, August 20, Jones all but guaranteed Lance's spot on the Cowboys 53-man roster ahead of the NFL's August 27 roster cut deadline.

“Do I need to see any more from Trey Lance?" Jones said, via ESPN's Todd Archer . "Can we stop there? And the answer is yes. Yes. He’s going to be on the 53.”

CBS Sports and Bleacher Report have been among those speculating that now may be the time for the Cowboys and Lance to capitalize on a trade.

During the Cowboys' second preseason game on August 17, Lance flashed some of the upside that made him the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft.

The 24-year-old threw for 151 yards and a touchdown on 15-of-23 passing and added 34 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in three quarters of action.

After the promising showing, former NFL quarterback Kurt Benkert, who breaks down QB play online, sang his praises on social media.

Amid Dak Prescott's looming contract situation , Lance sits firmly entrenched as Dallas' No. 3 quarterback behind seventh-year backup Cooper Rush .
