When we think back to the success of Jayden Daniels last season, it’s important to recognize the contributions of LSU’s offensive line. In particular, the two tackles Will Campbell and Emery Jones Jr. are far and away the best tandem in college football. Jones has started 24 of his 26 games since coming to LSU and last year was named to the All SEC second team. In addition, he was voted on by the LSU coaching staff as the Offensive Lineman of the Year.

Jones, who played his high school ball in town at Catholic High School of Baton Rouge, had two back to back state championships before becoming a Tiger. As he enters his third year, he is already projected to be a high first round draft pick in the NFL and as far as LSU goes this year the play in the offensive line will be a huge factor in their success.

Emery recently spoke to the media and gave his thoughts on training camp and expectations for the season.

On how much pride he has for being on one of the best offensive lines in the country

Emery: It means the world to us you know to lead this team this year and going into the year with everybody with eyes on us, it means a lot. I feel like we’re gonna hold up to every expectation that there is.

On differences in blocking for Garrett Nussmeier as opposed to Jayden Daniels

Emery: I mean not too much. Jayden would usually kind of run towards the end of the pass but [Garrett] kinda just sits back there and throws it a little more. So you definitely have to hold your block a little longer but it’s no challenge we can’t handle.

On just how confident the offense is despite losing a Heisman Trophy winner

Emery: Everybody’s kind of bought in and I feel like they brought in the right pieces into the program so we can uphold the expectations and standards that we had last year. And I feel like we’re going to be able to attack.

LSU kicks off their season with a huge matchup from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The Tigers will take on the Trojans on Sunday, September 7:30 pm ET.
