Sun Guard DiJonai Carrington Sharply Criticizes WNBA For "Disrespect," Not Promoting Historic Game Vs. Sparks

The Connecticut Sun and Los Angeles Sparks met up Tuesday for a historic WNBA basketball game at the TD Garden in Boston, home of the NBA's Boston Celtics.

The first-ever WNBA game at the historic venue ended with a 69-61 Sun victory over their challengers from the Western Conference.

The post-game press conference included a series of sharp comments from Sun Guard DiJonai Carrington, who called out the WNBA for not promoting and making the historic matchup more accessible for fans.

"I'm going to keep it real all the time and I felt like Connecticut as a franchise is historically disrespected," Carrington said.

"Sometimes if you want something you got to go out there and do it yourself, so that's what I did for us," she added, taking issue with the WNBA's lack of promotion of the game.

"I think that there could have been a lot more publicity or promo from the top.

"Connecticut had announced that we were having this game probably almost a year ago, maybe. I don't know. Sometime after last season, so there was ample time to do what needed to be done."

Carrington did her best to promote the game, which ended up being a sell-out.

She later retweeted a tweet that included her frustrated thoughts on the game not being shown on network television.

"The game should have been on the national television broadcast," she said.

"You shouldn't have to pay for any type of subscription to see a game that's this historic, in my opinion...I'm biased, but in my opinion."

"But it didn't matter anyway because they showed up and it was sold out, we got the dub, so I guess my tweet worked," Carrington, who led her team in scoring with 19 points on the night, said.
