Cowboys 'New Moves' on Dak and Lamb?

The Dallas Cowboys vowed, as they always do, that they would not provide "blow-by-blow'' and "play-by-play'' descriptions of their ongoing contract negotiations with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.

The Dallas Cowboys - once again - fibbed.

Owner Jerry Jones, of course, simply cannot help himself, in large part because of his "marketing-first'' mindset. Keeping the two disputes regarding contract extensions in the news ("top of the fold,'' as old newspaper reader Jones likes to put it) is great for the business of sales.

But is it helping those involved come to agreements?

On Tuesday at training camp in Oxnard, Jones offered up "updates'' of sorts on the Prescott and Lamb talks. ... and Cowboys Nation is left wondering if these discussions are a) productive and b) true ... because it certainly creates an impression that there is some sort of "new movement'' when there might be none at all.

Jerry on Dak, who could be targeting a deal (in excess of $55 million APY?) that makes him the highest-paid player in NFL history: “We’re just continuing to talk. The thing is there, since we’re really in-season, practicing, doing all those things, we’re operating under the existing contract really good.''

Is that a hint that Dallas might have to stand pat here, leaving dangling out there the possibility that Prescott plays 2024 on his existing final-year deal and becomes a free agent in March 2025?

Jerry on Lamb, who could be targeting a deal (near $35 million APY?) that puts him among the highest-paid non-QB's in NFL history:"I think I am (optimistic) ... The facts are that I believe we'll come together. ... We're in good shape there and we are having promising talks.''

Is that a hint, too? Or when the Cowboys talk about "talks'' - though they promised they wouldn't - is that just more "talk''?
