Cincinnati Bengals Starting RB Ranked Near Bottom of League by Analyst

The Cincinnati Bengals are just under three weeks away from kicking off the 2024 season and will begin the year with some new-look pieces at key positions.

One of those key positions is running back following the offseason trade of Joe Mixon following seven stellar seasons with Mixon as the lead back after him and the team could not come to an agreement contract wise.

In order to replace Mixon, it will likely take multiple players in a committee type situation, but there still has to be a 'starting' running back. In Cincinnati's case, it appears that an offseason free agent signing in veteran Zack Moss , who the team awarded a 2-year deal to, will be the lead guy. Despite some solid production over his career, Moss has never really truly been an RB1, leading to concern from NFL analyst and former star running back himself Maurice Jones-Drew . MJD ranked Moss No. 31 out of all 32 starting running backs in the league in his rankings list .

"Moss set career highs with 210 touches, 986 scrimmage yards and seven touchdowns in 14 games last season with the Colts. He did an admirable job filling in for Jonathan Taylor, who was in and out of the lineup with injuries," Jones-Drew wrote . "Now, Moss has a chance to stake his claim as a true RB1 in Cincinnati. However, the Bengals' offense runs through Joe Burrow and the passing attack. That could open lanes for Moss, but volume is the concern here."

Moss will likely cede some of the touches to second-year back Chase Brown , who together combine for a solid room . But in terms of a starter, Jones-Drew isn't impressed.
