Pete Carroll is one of the football coaching giants of the 21st century thanks to incredibly successful tenures with the USC Trojans and Seattle Seahawks, winning a Super Bowl with the latter.

However, for the first football season in decades, Caroll won't be roaming any sidelines this fall. Rather, he'll be walking up and down aisles of desks in his new position as a USC professor.

That's right, Coach Caroll is back with the Trojans, but not with their football program. This time around, he's dipping his toe in academia, which NFL insider Adam Schefter reported Wednesday morning:

Schefter's story notes that Carroll won't actually begin teaching until the spring semester, but nonetheless, he is dead set on stepping into the classroom following his illustrious coaching career.

"I'm looking forward to that," Carroll said of the opportunity, per Schefter. "It's going to be a really exciting endeavor when it's finalized and all that."

Meanwhile, some fans were curious and excited to see what the coaching legend's teaching gig will look like.

Other fans had plenty of jokes going back to Caroll's exit at USC.

Well, there were a couple of ruthless commenters, but also, a slew of football fans who are intrigued by this next step in Pete Carroll's life. It should be a fun spring for the fortunate (or perhaps unfortunate) individuals who wind up in Prof. Carroll's first class.
