After adding three more golds and a silver to her Olympic medal tally, Simone Biles made sure to celebrate her latest accomplishments in style.
This involved the most decorated U.S. gymnast in Olympic history going out for a night of post-Summer Games partying in Paris before heading back home to the United States. Amid all the fun, however, the 27-year-old was completely taken aback when the club offered her a $27,000 bottle of champagne.
Biles is one of the biggest-earning athletes out there today but even she refused to fall for what she called an "insane" offer from the posh Paris nightclub.
Biles made this mind-boggling revelation in a recent TikTok video while she was going through her make-up routine. This was ahead of her appearance in the Chicago Bears' preseason matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals to support her husband, Chicago safety Jonathan Owens, last Sunday.
“We had closing ceremonies at the Olympics," she said. "I went and after that we went out. You guys, this club tried to charge me $26,000 for a bottle of champagne. Like, are you insane? Obviously, I didn't buy it, but why would you even try to play me like that? Like, that's wild."
Biles did not name the nightclub she went to but upon further investigation, we learned that she partied at the L'Arc Paris, which is just a stone's throw away from the iconic Arc de Triomphe.
The fans on X, formerly Twitter, quickly made the connection, too, and it did not take long before L'Arc started drawing some major backlash for their extreme prices.
"I hope the club in question will be flooded with reviews, denouncing their practices," a comment read, as translated from French by translation tool.
"They are very sick," said another.
"This club of scammers must be dissolved," a reaction read.
"This is truly outrageous! A bill of 26,000 € for a bottle after the Olympics is beyond belief. It seems that this Parisian club wanted to take advantage of the situation in a somewhat opportunistic way. Simone Biles deserves better than that!" said a fan.
"A scandal! Such a sum is completely disproportionate," another surmised.
It's a known fact that these upscale clubs charge unreasonably high prices for bottle service, which is why only the elite are able to afford such places. Nevertheless, $26,000 for a bottle of champagne is just beyond comprehension.
