Trade CeeDee Lamb for Amari? Insane Browns Proposal

    By Mike Fisher,

FRISCO - There is a time and a place for ridiculous NFL trade speculation from the media, and fortunately - we thought - that "Silly Season,'' that time and that place, is over.

Meanwhile, even in that proper time and place, there should be some sort of boundaries on ridiculousness.

So, somebody purporting to cover the Cleveland Browns wants his team to trade for CeeDee Lamb? Such a thing is not in the plans of the Dallas Cowboys, but it's Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' own goofball pronouncements that have pried open that Pandora's Box ...

So have at it, media members. But how about if we "have at it'' while guided by at least a pinch of actual knowledge?

One Browns-tied media outlet writes that the Browns "should be willing to go all-in on trying to acquire'' Lamb. They point out the obvious opinion that "Lamb is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and he is just 25 years old.'' They point out the Google-able stats that show that "Lamb racked up 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns.''

And then they enter The Land of the Uninformed, writing, "How about a trade that would send Amari Cooper back to the Cowboys, along with a 2025 first-round pick, and a 2026 second-round pick? That trade package would make sense for both parties involved. ...''

It would? We'll leave the Browns' willingness to give up two premium picks (along with the needed willingness to pay Lamb in the range of $35 million APY on a new contract extension) up to those who know the Cleveland front office better than we do.

See how we did that? Staying in our lane by admitting what we do not know?

The site also claims that "Dallas would be getting a true No. 1 wide receiver that would help them compete for the next few years.''

    Oops.

Anybody with even the most cursory knowledge of the Cowboys knows that Dallas absolutely does not view Cooper as "a true No. 1 wide receiver,'' which is exactly the reason they (too cheaply) gave him away in that infamous trade to the Browns.

And for those of you who still don't understand? We beg you to go to the source, the origin story, linked here. "Shrinkage'' is how it'll be remembered.

Oh, and anybody with even the most cursory knowledge of the Browns knows that no team at present is going to get an Amari who "would help them compete for the next few years'' because he's in the final year of his deal.

And as Cleveland fans know, the Browns declined to give him an extension of his present $20 million APY contract.

The NFL can be a never-say-never world, and so media and fan spitballing can be fun. But some level of responsibility should be part of the equation, too. And all we have here in this remnant of "Silly Season''? A suggestion of a trade that demonstrates complete ignorance of what's going on with every single component involved. ... thus crashing foolishly through the boundaries of ridiculousness.
