As the 2024 NFL season approaches, New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh isn’t underestimating the Buffalo Bills’ grip on the AFC East. Speaking to reporters ahead of Tuesday’s practice in Florham Park, Saleh dismissed the notion that the division is "wide open," instead highlighting the formidable challenge the Bills present to any team hoping to claim the division title.

"It's not that it's wide open. Buffalo, as long as Josh Allen is quarterback and Coach [Sean] McDermott is coaching that defense, they're gonna be a problem for the entire AFC," Saleh stated.

His comments underscore the consistency that has defined the Bills' recent seasons, with Buffalo recording 10+ wins in each of the last five years since Allen took over as the starting quarterback.

Under McDermott, the Bills have qualified for the playoffs six times in his seven-year tenure, further solidifying their status as the team to beat in the AFC East. However, Saleh was quick to point out that the Bills aren’t the only hurdle in the Jets’ path to their first division title since 2002.

"As long as Tua's playing quarterback with [Mike] McDaniel and all that speed, they're gonna be a problem," Saleh remarked, acknowledging the Miami Dolphins as another formidable foe. He also noted the resilience of the New England Patriots , highlighting their strong defensive foundation and ongoing offensive rebuild under Bill Belichick.

Despite these challenges, Saleh emphasized that the Jets’ primary focus remains on their own preparation.

"Our focus is us — taking care of our job, taking care of our business. When we cross the bridge of having to play them, we'll play them," he said.

The Jets will face the Bills twice this season, first in a Monday Night Football showdown on October 14 and later in Week 17 on December 29. With the AFC East shaping up to be as competitive as ever, these matchups will be critical in determining the division's fate.
