US Flag Football QB Turns Heads With Extremely Bold Patrick Mahomes Take

Flag football is officially coming to the Olympic games in 2028. Players around the NFL have already hinted at the idea of joining the flag football team to compete for a possible gold medal. However, there is already a U.S. Flag Football Team in place.

Darrell Doucette, the starting quarterback for the U.S. Flag Football Team, has stated he and his current teammates deserve to play in the 2028 Olympics. During a recent interview with TMZ, Doucette boldly claimed that he's a brilliantly talented quarterback. So much so, that Doucette believes that he's a better quarterback than Patrick Mahomes.

"At the end of the day, I feel like I'm better than Patrick Mahomes because of my IQ of the game."

TMZ reports that later after the interview, Doucette sent a text adding, "I'm not saying I'm a better player overall but until he steps on a 5v5 flag field, I'm going to feel that way until it’s proven otherwise! I'm a competitor and need to be proven wrong."

This is now the second time Doucette has turned heads as he recently called NFL players "disrespectful" for believing they can simply replace the current flag football roster. Doucette also made it clear that he just wants NFL players to "try out" for the flag football team the way he did.

NFL football consists of 22 players on the field, 11 on offense with 11 on defense. Doucette plays five-on-five flag football. It's a substantially different sport as the field is much more open in flag football. Doucette has played well representing the USA in flag football competitions. But it's hard to imagine Mahomes struggling in a five-on-five competition.

Mahomes is widely considered the best current quarterback in the NFL right now. He's been wildly consistent since becoming the Kansas City Chiefs starting quarterback in 2018. In the six seasons he's played so far, Mahomes has already led Kansas City to four Super Bowl appearances, winning three of them.

Last season, the star quarterback had a bit of a rocky start. But the Chiefs found a groove midway through the season and battled through the playoffs for the Super Bowl. Kansas City won that game over the San Francisco 49ers 25-22. On the year, Mahomes threw for 4,183 yards, 27 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, and recorded a 67.2 completion percentage.

The Chiefs are set to kick off the season on September 5 on Thursday Night Football against the Baltimore Ravens. It's a tough matchup as Baltimore plans to overcome the Super Bowl hurdle after signing running back Derrick Henry in the offseason.
