The Denver Broncos had an interesting quarterback battle going on between rookie Bo Nix and veterans Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson.

On Wednesday, it was announced that Nix, the rookie out of Oregon, will get the nod in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks.

As such, Nix becomes the first Broncos rookie to start the season since Hall of Famer John Elway.

Shortly after, Elway shared his thoughts on Nix getting the starting job, per Mile High Sports. He also mentioned how he thinks Nix will do as the starter.

"He's ahead of the curb when it comes to that," Elway said. "I think Sean Payton will be great for him...He's going to have his ups and downs as a young guy--I had plenty of those-- but I think he's got all the talent, will, and mind strength to be able to do it."

Elway added he thinks Nix will "handle it well" in regards to the jump from preseason to NFL regular season games.

Elway also made sure to give Payton credit and knows he can help develop the rookie along the way.

Elway said, "Bo is tremendously talented" while saying Sean Payton will keep him in the "right situations" and not put much on him in Year One.

Nix was selected 12th overall in the 2024 NFL draft after a stellar run at Oregon following his transfer from Auburn. Now, after a QB battle in training camp, the job is officially his.
