It seems track and field star Noah Lyles just can’t catch a break.

In the span of just a few weeks, Lyles has won Olympic gold, been embroiled in public feuds with both NBA and NFL players, and now his latest headache is a result of something he had no real part in.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, USA Flag Football quarterback Darrell Doucette made a delusional statement that he felt he was better than Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who's already won three Super Bowl championships and two NFL MVPs before his 29th birthday.

“I feel like I’m better than Patrick Mahomes because of my IQ of the game,” Doucette said. “I know he’s right now the best in the league. I know he’s more accurate, I know he has all these intangibles, but when it comes to flag football, I feel like I know more than him.”

Because Doucette’s remarks were so polarizing and he doesn’t play in the NFL, Lyles was raked over the coals on social media for emboldening non-professional athletes to make such questionable statements with a false sense of superiority.

Lyles made waves during the 2024 Paris Olympics after comments he made at the 2023 World Championships resurfaced in which he ripped into NBA players for being called “world champions” because it was disrespectful to Olympic athletes who compete against the best in the world.

Then Miami Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill said he could beat Lyles in a race, followed by Hill’s teammate Raheem Mostert who made similar claims, and suddenly Lyles found himself at the center of two public feuds with different professional sports leagues.

Though Lyles did nothing to bring heat on himself in this situation, many believe his boisterous personality and sometimes reckless comments are what keep him seemingly always involved in TMZ-like drama.
