According to The Athletic's Daniel Popper , Joey Bosa remains sidelined as the Los Angeles Chargers prepare for the upcoming season. The star edge rusher has not participated in practice since suffering a hand and wrist injury during a joint session with the Los Angeles Rams on August 4.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh indicated earlier this month that Bosa was dealing with an unspecified issue, but further details have not been disclosed. Bosa's recent history is concerning, as he has struggled with injuries over the past two seasons, playing only 14 of a possible 34 games. Last year, he managed just five games before undergoing surgery for a groin injury. This year, he faced a hamstring issue and a fractured toe, ultimately landing on injured reserve due to a foot injury.

In the nine games he did play in 2023, Bosa recorded 20 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. The four-time Pro Bowler has not played a full season since 2021, when he achieved 10.5 sacks and seven forced fumbles. In the five seasons where he played at least 12 games, he reached double-digit sacks four times.

Bosa wasn't the only notable absence from Tuesday's practice. Safeties Derwin James and Thomas Harper, tight ends Hayden Hurst and Will Dissly, wide receiver D.J. Chark, and edge rusher Chris Rumph II also missed the session.

On a positive note, quarterback Justin Herbert returned to practice after being sidelined with a plantar fascia injury in his right foot. He had previously been in a boot for two weeks but was back in action, participating in drills. Herbert is expected to be ready for the regular season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders on September 8.
