Former Cincinnati Bengals star tight end C.J. Uzomah was released by the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday in what was seen as a relatively surprising move.

Uzomah arrived to Philadelphia back in April after a two-year stint with the New York Jets in which the team decided to part ways with one year remaining on the 3-year, $24 million deal he signed to leave Cincinnati following the run to the Super Bowl in 2021.

In two preseason games for the Eagles, Uzomah logged 30 snaps but produced just one reception for three yards. What exactly his next move is remains to be seen, as he looks to have a difficult path to making a roster by week one.

A reunion in Cincinnati feels unlikely with the team already carrying four tight ends including the utilization of a draft pick on one this year .

Uzomah was a critical piece of the team that went to the Super Bowl in what was the best season of his career to this point. The former Auburn tight end accounted for nearly 500 receiving on 49 receptions and five touchdowns, all career highs.

While the path to making an NFL roster in 2024 may look a bit bleak for Uzomah, he will without a doubt go down in Bengals lore as a player who contributed tremendously over a lengthy career with the team.

Selected in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft , Uzomah spent seven seasons with the team and helped to accelerate the rebuild from bottom of the league to legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

Cincinnati fans will wish him tremendous luck in his future endeavors.
