Colin Cowherd Issues Head-Turning Take About Bo Nix and Tom Brady

When the Denver Broncos made their first-round selection at No. 12 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, many felt their choice was out of pure necessity.

The Broncos were in desperate need of a quarterback. Not since Peyton Manning has the team truly had a franchise player to lead them. They essentially gave up the farm to acquire Russell Wilson from Seattle, but that turned out to be a complete disaster as the team moved on from him after just two seasons, losing millions in the process.

So, there he was—Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix—sitting there at No. 12, perhaps the runt of the litter. He was, after all, the last quarterback taken in the first round, and that was with the Broncos attempting to move up in the draft to get one of the other five taken before Nix.

And now, as fate would have it, Nix is the starting quarterback for the Broncos entering the 2024 season. Who would have thought?

Mind you, that wasn’t always a sure thing. Denver already had Jarrett Stidham and traded with the New York Jets this offseason for Zach Wilson.

One leader in the sports media, Colin Cowherd, is not surprised by this move from the Broncos. Cowherd has been high on Nix since last year during his time at Oregon, insisting that his experience and accuracy would lead him to a starting job in the NFL.

Then, after two superb preseason auditions against the Indianapolis Colts and Green Bay Packers, Cowherd went into full-blown Nix fanboy mode. With the announcement of Nix becoming the Broncos’ starting quarterback, the host of The Herd has now taken it a step further.

“Bo Nix is the starting quarterback... it’s like naming Brady the starter in New England in Year 5, it’s obvious,” Cowherd said.

That’s quite the bold statement from Cowherd, even if it’s coated in a bit of sarcasm. But if you’re a Broncos fan, it’s difficult not to get too excited about Nix’s potential.

Over the past two seasons in Eugene, he was a 70 percent-plus passer, and last year, he was a Heisman Trophy candidate.

Sean Payton has already coached one future Hall of Fame quarterback in Drew Brees. Who knows? Maybe he’s on his way to coaching another in Nix.
