Steve Spurrier has been associated with the SEC for quite some time. He played quarterback for the Florida Gators during the 1960s. Spurrier even won the Heisman for his play during the 1966 season. After his playing days, Spurrier went into coaching. He was a head coach for the Duke Blue Devils, Florida and, more recently, the South Carolina Gamecocks in 2015.

The "Head Ball Coach" appeared on a recent edition of " Another Dooley Noted Podcast " to talk about his pick for this season's SEC Championship winner. The Alabama Crimson Tide beat the Georgia Bulldogs last season to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Spurrier believed that Alabama could win the SEC title again under new head coach Kalen DeBoer, who Spurrier incorrectly referred to as "Jalen DeBoer." With the Nick Saban era over, it would be a massive achievement for DeBoer to win the conference in year one.

“Here’s what I’m going to get out there right now," Spurrier said. "I’m going to pick Alabama to win the SEC. Yeah, I like Jalen DeBoer, and I think their players and their team will say, ‘We don’t need our coach to win. We’re good enough to win by ourselves.’ And this guy’s a hell of a coach, Jalen DeBoer, and I think they’ve got a schedule they can work with."

DeBoer has a solid roster for his first season in Alabama. The program returns stars like quarterback Jalen Milroe, linebacker Deonte Lawson, corner Malachi Moore, and defensive lineman Jaheim Oatis.

However, the DeBoer era was not without its losses. The Crimson Tide lost players like safety Caleb Downs and QB Julian Sayin to the Ohio State Buckeyes, and CB Dezz Ricks to the Texas A&M Aggies.

DeBoer's first game as Alabama head coach will be against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Aug. 31. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
