Mavs' Klay Thompson Wins Summer, Loses in NBA 2K25?

After a stressful 2023-24 season, which included Klay Thompson getting benched and missing the NBA playoffs, the four-time NBA champion desperately needed a change of scenery. Thompson signed the Dallas Mavericks after the Los Angeles Lakers attempted to make the race for the free agent's services.

Now that the dust has settled, as the offseason is well behind the NBA calendar when Thompson wants to relax with a copy of NBA 2K25, perhaps he should mentally prepare for his video game model's overall rating. Thompson went from an 85 rating to an 81.

Is Thompson feeling the effects of moving from California to Texas? Doubtful.

The last time Thompson played an NBA game, he went 0-10 from the field against the Sacramento Kings in the Warriors' embarrassing 118-94 loss, experiencing a franchise-shifting defeat in the Play-In tournament.

Although Thompson's jump shot suffered in the match, shooting didn't lead the former Warriors star to a diminished NBA 2K25 rating problem. Thompson's lost steps on defense played a role as well. Thompson was once respected as a great two-way player, but the two consecutive season-ending injuries cost the four-time NBA champion lateral speed.

However, according to Synergy Sports, Thompson's defense ranked 75th percentile in points per possession ranks, which earned a "very good" rating on the highly-respected scouting website.

Dallas offers Thompson a chance to succeed as the third option, as he did with the Warriors during the Kevin Durant era. Thompson won't have the pressure of playing like "Game 6 Klay" as a member of the Mavericks.

Although Thompson's NBA 2K25 rating dip is warranted, the 81 rating may be upgraded before the 2024-25 season ends.
