Commanders' Dan Quinn Reveals 'Important Part Of The Process' In Developing QBs

The Washington Commanders named Jayden Daniels as their starting quarterback this week, and in truth, it was something that most knew would happen the moment they drafted him second overall.

But there is a process that head coach Dan Quinn wanted Jayden to go through, and it wasn't a straight line. There were always going to be ups and downs in Daniels' first NFL preseason, and while we've seen him show up in games, but on the practice field, there have been a lot of learning opportunities.

Head coach Dan Quinn has revealed the patience needed when developing a young quarterback and that the trials and tribulations they experience are all part of the process.

"Yeah, I think it's not just at that position, it's overall, but I think you're on the right target to say anytime there's development, there's marks that you go up and down, up and down," Quinn said . "And so, not just related to quarterback, but we're kind of growing things we saw better from preseason [game] one into preseason two and again for this week. So it's kind of part of that process, so I would say that is one area I'm not as impatient because I expect those to take place. So you may hear me use the term expect the expected, there's gonna be bumps, there's gonna be missed turns that you need and quite honestly, you don't want them to, but you know that it's an important part of the process."

For Daniels, the battle is half-won. Now, the real test begins.

Of course, being named the starter was on his offseason checklist, and now he must step up his game again in readiness for the regular season and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1.

All of the missteps and mistakes throughout camp have led Daniels to this moment: He will lead the Commanders out against Tampa Bay in a couple of weeks.

He has been through an important part of his development, and now, perhaps the most crucial part will be taking place soon - learning on the go in real NFL games.

With the regular season around the corner, it won't always be smooth sailing as he will have "rookie" moments, but as Quinn stated, that is simply part of the process.
