The Philadelphia Phillies (74-52) entered Wednesday looking to snap a two-game losing streak and force a rubber match with the Atlanta Braves (67-59) on Thursday. Entering six games ahead of the Braves, this series has had playoff implications from the beginning and has felt every bit like a playoff series.

    Nola's Night

Aaron Nola (11-6, 3.45 ERA) struggled with his control through 5 2/3 innings. Walking two batters and throwing only 60 strikes in 100 pitches is unlike the normally surehanded workhorse.

Nola only allowed two earned runs over his time in the game, on eight hits with two walks and five strikeouts. But it was evident from the beginning that the control was not there, and the Phillies are lucky that it was only the two runs allowed.

    Notables

    • The Phillies scored a pinch-hit RBI in the top of the eighth, their first pinch-hit RBI this season in the United States.
    • Alec Bohm 's MLB-leading on-base streak was snapped on Wednesday. Bohm went 0-for-4.
    • The Phillies grounded into three double plays on the night.
    • Weston Wilson went 2-for-3 on the night with a double, his third double of the season. The utility man should see more playing time going forward, at least until his bat cools down.

    WPA Leader of the Night

Wednesday's WPA leader of the night was Braves' shortstop Orlando Arcia . Arcia opened the scoring for both sides with a two-run home run off of Nola in the bottom of the fourth. His line on the night would end at 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk, a run, and two RBI. His WPA score would end at 25.9

    Next Up

Phillies fans can listen to the game on 94 WIP or WTTM 1680.
