With Week 0 kickoff 50 hours away, Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt finally made his predictions for the first-ever 12-team playoff field on " The Joel Klatt Show ."

The field features the four highest-ranked conference champions occupying the top four seeds and receiving a BYE. Then, the rest of the field is filled out with the seven highest-ranked non-champions, as well as the fifth-highest-ranked conference winner, likely a Group of Five team, assuming one does not take a top-four seed.

With those rules in mind, Klatt laid out the following field for the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff:

    1. Ohio State (Big Ten champ)
    2. Georgia (SEC champ)
    3. Utah (Big 12 champ)
    4. Miami (ACC champ)
    5. Notre Dame
    6. Texas
    7. Oregon
    8. Penn State
    9. Ole Miss
    10. Alabama
    11. Michigan
    12. Boise State (Mountain West champ)

There's zero surprise at the top, with the consensus top two clubs in the country this preseason, Ohio State and Georgia taking the 1-2 seeds. Meanwhile, Utah and Miami make their playoff debuts and even get a bye for winning their respective leagues.

Notre Dame is in a peculiar spot being unable to win a conference championship. But that works out, since the 5-seed's path features a game against Klatt's Group of Five seed followed up by a matchup with Miami rather than one of the SEC or Big Ten heavyweights.

The Utes and Hurricanes are some new blood among the college football elites lately if they make the CFP, but otherwise, that 12-team list includes most of the top programs of the decade thus far, including three of last year's four playoff squads.
