Giants’ Cornerback Dilemma: ‘Major Issue’?

As the New York Giants approach the final week of the preseason, their secondary remains a pressing concern, particularly at the cornerback position opposite rookie Deonte Banks . Despite various offseason adjustments and acquisitions aimed at strengthening their defensive backfield, the Giants are still grappling with a significant issue that was highlighted during their recent joint practices with the New York Jets .

The Jets' offense, led by veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers , exposed the Giants' weakness on Wednesday, connecting on multiple big plays through the air. The performance underscored the Giants' ongoing struggle to find a reliable starting cornerback to pair with Banks. The battle for the CB2 spot has been fiercely contested throughout the summer, but no one has stepped up to definitively claim the role.

Connor Hughes of SNY, who observed the joint practice, pointed out the glaring problem in the Giants' secondary.

"The Giants desperately need to figure out what they are going to do at corner opposite Deonte Banks because that is a major issue right now," Hughes noted .

Flott and McCloud have only 24 career starts combined, and their lack of experience has been evident throughout training camp. With just one preseason game remaining, the Giants are in desperate need of a cornerback to emerge as a reliable starter.
