What Does Jahan Dotson Trade Mean For Commanders' Receivers?

    By Wil Riggs,

On Thursday morning, the Washington Commanders sent former No. 16 overall pick Jahan Dotson and a draft pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for three 2025 picks.

The former Penn State product has been sliding down the depth chart throughout training camp as players like Dyami Brown and Olamide Zaccheaus moved up.

So, what does this mean for the Commanders?

Let’s start with the draft picks. The Commanders increased their picks for the 2025 draft by two. They sent Philly a fifth-rounder and received in return a third- and two seventh-rounders.

General manager Adam Peters has been looking for ways to stockpile picks for next year’s draft, and this trade helps in that regard.

As far as the roster goes, it eliminates the possibility of a disgruntled Dotson causing any type of locker room issues. Coach Dan Quinn is very big on positive culture, and removing Dotson from the equation means one less thing for him to worry about as the season progresses.

Brown, a fourth-year player out of North Carolina, has established quite the connection with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. Rookie receiver Luke McCaffrey will have his opportunity to start in the slot.

OZ, Jamison Crowder and Byron Pringle will also make the roster, and Martavis Bryant has an outside chance of making the final roster when cut down day arrives on Tuesday.

Ultimately, the Commanders are playing the long game, and acquiring draft picks to build the future of the team was the right call.
