Julius Randle Lukewarm Trade Value

Jalen Brunson is the star in New York. The 2024 NBA playoffs solidified the Villanova alum's status as the people's champion and the best player. Julius Randle played catalyst for the current Knicks core, and although the Texas native earned multiple All-Star bids, it seems that front offices view him as a system player. The Athletic's Fred Katz asked around to gauge Randle's value.

The response Katz received wasn't negative, but it's nothing for which to write home. “Neutral, at best,” a rival team's front office employee responded.

Randle is coming off a shoulder injury that forced him to miss the 2024 postseason, and he couldn't finish the previous playoffs due to an ankle injury. While Randle has the accolades of a player of which gravitates toward rival franchises, the on-court product, at least regarding postseason performances, doesn't match.

Moreover, the last healthy Randle postseason stint came in a 4-1 loss to the Atlanta Hawks in the opening round of the 2021 playoffs. Randle shot an abysmal 29 percent from the field and had more turnovers than assists.

A supporting star role fits the bill at this juncture in Randle's career. For the Knicks, such a scenario bodes well for the roster's current hierarchy. Randle seems along for the ride, as he recently congratulated teammate Brunson for earning the tram captain role.

Although front offices don't foam at the mouth for Randle, his team welcomes the All-Star forward with open arms. Randle has one more guaranteed year on his contract unless he opts into the $30.9 million player option for the 2025-26 season.
