As Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes gears up for a potential run to his third consecutive Super Bowl appearance, he and his wife, Brittany, have made a substantial donation to a major college football program.

After signing a 10-year extension worth up to $450 million with the Chiefs in 2020, Mahomes is giving back to his alma mater.

On Thursday, Texas Tech University announced that the Mahomes family will donate $5 million to his alma mater. The donation directly funds the university's new South End Zone and Dustin R. Womble Football Center, a project worth $242 million.

Mahomes, originally from Whitehouse, Texas, was a three-star recruit out of high school. He only received three collegiate offers from Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and Rice; he chose to take his talents to the western part of the state.

Mahomes played for the Red Raiders for three seasons. Throughout his time there, he established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in school history, leading the nation in passing yards with 5,052 during his junior year.

He finished his collegiate career with 11,252 passing yards, 93 passing touchdowns, 29 interceptions, and 22 rushing touchdowns. He ranks eighth in Big 12 history for career passing touchdowns after leading the conference in touchdowns in back-to-back seasons.

Following that exceptional season, he skipped his final year of eligibility to enter the 2017 NFL draft, where the Chiefs selected him 10th overall.
