Steelers' Russell Wilson Not Concerned With Struggling Offense

The Pittsburgh Steelers offense under new coordinator Arthur Smith has been lackluster at best in the preseason. The lack of continuity with quarterbacks is likely a big reason why.

Kyle Allen has had the best preseason numbers for the Steelers thus far completing 17-of-23 passes for 193 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Quarterback Russell Wilson struggled in his only preseason game taking 20 snaps and accumulating just 19 total yards on that time. Following practice on Wednesday, Wilson was asked if he was concerned by the lack of production from the offense.

“Absolutely not. Because the reason being, as I told you guys, is the level of practice we’ve had against one of the best defenses every day. And how we’ve shown up there,” Wilson said.

“So, I think the best thing that we can do is just slow our minds down, play really clean football, and also enjoy the process, man.”

Wilson was signed to be the starter back in March, but an injury to open training camp sidelined him for two weeks. That whole situation put him behind the 8-ball both in snaps, and time with the first team.

It has slowed his learning curve for the new offense, and he will presumably have one more shot in the final preseason game to get things on track.

“I’m excited to get back on the field’ Wilson continued. “Last week was great to be out there for the first time, putting the pads on and everything else. And obviously, we didn’t get the win and everything else. But I think the big thing for us is just executing, making our plays, and doing our thing. I think the explosive plays. I think also, too, just how well the line’s done throughout the whole preseason. Really excited about it.”

The Steelers visit the Detroit Lions for a noon ET kickoff on Saturday.
