One of the more exciting things about the changing times in college football for the Texas A&M Aggies is the renewing of the yearly matchup with their most hated rival.

With the additions of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC in 2024, the Lone Star Showdown is officially back between the Aggies and the Longhorns, making fans of both schools thrilled and excited to be facing their in-state foe again for the first time since 2011 .

In a joint press conference on Thursday, Athletic Directors from both schools announced a new partnership between the Lone Star Showdown and its new sponsor, Cotton Holdings, Inc. for at least the next three years. Aggies AD Trev Alberts took questions from the media during the event. One of the things he talked about was the possibility of this game eventually moving to Friday nights, something he said he was in favor of.

"I'm very much in favor of those considerations," Alberts said when asked about the possibility of the game changing days. "What I'm most in favor of is looking at what window we own the best, particularly in primetime...I would not be surprised in the future if the game moved to Friday nights, obviously we work with our television partners, but I'm most interested in driving the Texas A&M brand...we want this to be the premiere primetime window. Whatever is best is good for us, it needs to be on Thanksgiving Day weekend, though."

It's a strong stance from Alberts, who by the sounds of it is willing to do whatever it takes to get this game in front of as many eyeballs as possible. How exactly is the best way to go about that remains to be seen, but it appears all options are on the table.
